Unfortunately it has been a rough few weeks here with the toddler twosome and i haven't been able to get creative (or even uncreative to be honest) in the kitchen! These are the sort of times it is great to have a well stocked freezer though!
Although i don't have any new recipes to offer you from my kitchen this week i do have some wonderful links to share...these lovely family bloggers all have fantastic ideas with food for toddler and baby. I hope you find some new favourites!!
My Small Potatoes offers a recipe for a yummy toddler approved Veggie Laden Pasta....
My Small Potatoes also have a great post on making Strawberries & Cream Homemade Popsicles..what toddler could resist these? I haven't tried ice-blocks (What we Australians call popsicles) with the toddler twosome yet...these might just be the start i am looking for...and how cute are those holders?
The Iowa Farmer's Wife shares an adorable Build a Snowman Muffin Tin Meal idea...just right for the cold rolling in across Australia now...although we don't ever actually see any snow in my part of the country! I love how this also becomes a fun activity for the children...they do so love to be involved...and hopefully then more likely to eat!
DuckDuckOctopus shares a great idea for making your own pizzas with the kids...why not turn them into a flower for that extra bit of fun! A great recipe for the dough here too!
For something a little different The Good Long Road shares some multicultural learning with food , reading and play coming together to provide toddler fun and a yummy meal! I love when food can be incorporated into learning!
The same lovely blogger also shares some great DIY Baby Food recipes and tips at Cooking with Love....
And for those with fussy eaters B.Inspired Mama shared a great post last week with 25 tips for dealing with those picky eaters...includes lots of great advice from Mum's just like you! I really found this helpful. This blogger is doing a series on parenting challenges...can't wait to read the next one...i really enjoy the concept of tips from 'The Mouths of Mom's!" Be sure to check it out if you have a bub or toddler!
Hopefully i can get back to some cooking myself this week...i have missed being able to get creative in the kitchen and have been relying on the old family favourites....those ones you have made so often there is no need for a recipe!
It has certainly been an interesting few weeks with teething twins and lots of tantrums...mine included i am afraid! Mother's Day was perhaps the toughest day of all unfortunately....I'd like to do one of those I had a lovely Mother's Day posts but i'm sorry to say i didn't. It was a really tough day behaviour wise and there was no napping and much broken sleep at night....but you know what..that's ok...because that's the reality of being a Mum and i know that Mother's day isn't really about breakfast in bed...it's about recognition that you have the most special...yet hardest job in the world...and you never take a day off....not even because it is a 'special' day. I had to come to that realisation after much 'poor me' type thinking! Once i took the pressure off how the day 'should' have been i found i became a lot more content within myself.....or perhaps that was the wine.....
Anyway...we got through, there were some special moments of course... my grown up teen bought me a lovely little ring with her hard earned after school job paypacket...very special and reminds me that she is growing into a beautiful young woman now...she even cleaned the pantry and fridge for me!(i suspect because they are 2 of the things i have been moaning about not getting to this week...ooops!) My patient partner cooked a lovely lamb roast and helped to mop up the flow of tears! I think it was just the culmination of a rough few weeks and i had hoped that somehow the toddler twosome would realise Mummy needed a 'good' day on Sunday....not to much to expect from 22 month olds i don't think, hehe!
It was beautiful weather though and in the interests of keeping the toddler twosome with smiles on their faces i decided we all needed to get messy in the sunshine...so out came the slime! What else would you want to do on Mother's Day but get slimed?
I'll post a bit more about this activity later in the week...please enjoy exploring those links above though and hopefully i shall be back with a new recipe to share with you next Tuesday!
